Default What you need to know

I am now 5 days out from my lap band and so far I am fabulously happy.

For those who are scheduled to have the surgery, just a few little things that might help you be more comfortable during your stay

1)Bring your own pillow. The pillows at the hospital and the hotel are...well...not the best in the world. Plus a pillow makes an ideal support to hold over your tummy if you have to cough or sneeze.

2)Bring a support person who is not having surgery if at all possible. I was really glad to have someone there for me.

3)I was really glad to have the gas X, it made a difference. Dont forget it.

4)If you have shoulder or back pain, lie down with some pillows under your hips so your hips are higher than your head, lean your legs on a chair, up the wall or just bend your knees. This really really helped my post op shoulder pain.

For all you who are signed up and waiting. All I can say is I am really really glad I did it and that Dr Kuri is the best, along with absolutely everyone of his support team. Thanks a million!!

Thank you Laura! I am scheduled for surgery on 3/24! Cannot wait! This was great info. Did you have a plane ride home? I live in FL and that is the only part I am dreading...flying home.

Yes, I flew home but it was only a 90 min flight so it wasn't so bad. I would advise getting the isle seat so you can get up and walk up and down easily. I found my shoulder pain was better if I supported myself against the wall and bent my head down toward my knees. Not as good as lying down but it did help. Otherwise I really wasn't uncomfortable for the flight.

I am scheduled for surgery on March 25! Thank you for putting out this information! I luckily will have my husband traveling with me, also i am coming from los angeles, so dont have far to travel. I am also glad to see that your BMI/wt loss goal is close to mine...i was concerned regarding whether this surgery would be appropriate for someone that has 50-60 lbs to lose.

Hi Jacquie - I had surgery on January 30th. I flew back to NY after staying 2 days in the hotel and I didn't have a problem either...AND we sat on the runway for 2 hours waiting to be "de-iced" in DC.

Hi Bridget...where in NY are you from? I'm originally from Long Island and will be going back to visit on 4/9.

I'm about 5-6 hours north of Long Island in Syracuse, NY.

I will have to let you know when I visit my best friend in Manlius and my brother-in-law is in Marathon. Not too far from you!
